glossary — N
News Aggregator
A piece of software or Web application that collects syndicated Web content
such as news feeds, Web pages, poscasts and blogs, giving users a single
access point for recent information.
Once subscribed to a feed, an aggregator checks
for new content. This is often referred to as being "pulled" to
the subscriber, as opposed to "pushed" with email or instant messaging.
And unlike some "pushed" information, the aggregator user can easily
unsubscribe from a feed.
Often built into portals. Examples: My Yahoo!
and iGoogle.
Also referred to as RSS readers, feed readers,
feed aggregators, news readers or search aggregators.
Node (networking)
A device connected to a network, such as a computer or router.
