glossary — S
Server — DNS
Each server (connected network or computer) has a unique IP (internet protocol) address. Domain Name System (DNS) numbers are used to identify them. When you set up your email client (software) on your local computer, you will need the DNS numbers of the server (provider) transmitting your email.
Signature
A distinctive method of visual identification; many companies use both a logo and logotype to form a signature.
Slogan
A phrase that may be used with the signature to provide additional identifying or marketing information about the company.
Squeeze Page
An introductory page on a Web site that expects to turn visitors into
interested customers, collects the email address of these customers to
automatically build "opt-in lists," and uses the information
collected to personalize each visitor's experience for increased profitability.
There
are rarely navigation or hyperlinks on normal squeeze pages. This focuses
visitors' attention on one choice: register for the email list or leave
the site. Internet marketers have discovered that when a visitor signs
up for an email list, it provides additional opportunities to communicate
ongoing sales messages to that visitor over time, develop a relationship,
and cross sell related products.
Internet marketers use copy writing techniques
similar to offline direct response marketing, including headlines, bullet
points, teaser copy, deadlines, testimonials, scarcity, etc. Aggressive
marketers present visitors with multiple incentives in exchange for their
contact information.
