World Wide Web / W3 / Web
The total set of interlinked hypertext documents residing on HTTP (Hypertext
Transfer Protocol) servers all around the world. Documents on the World
Wide Web, called pages or Web pages, are written in HTML (Hypertext Markup
Language), identified by URLs (Uniform Resource Locators) that specify
the particular machine and pathname by which a file can be accessed, and
transmitted from node to node to the end user under HTTP.
The World Wide Web is the part of the Internet that most
users see and use. The Web brought an explosion of Internet use by implementing
visual content. It continues to grow at an incredible rate. Technology has improved
to such an extent that the Web is now considered to be indispensable for education,
business and entertainment. There are billions of pages on the Web and thousands
more are added every hour.
