This glossary of graphic design, marketing, advertising, print, Website design and Internet terminology offers simple definitions to assist visitors to understand the sometimes technical jargon and industry-insider language we use. It is an ever-growing resource for simple, straightforward definitions of some of the most common, and yet, often misunderstood words in these industries.
This glossary is growing but is small by comparison to most online dictionaries. If you're looking for a definition that you cannot find and can't wait for us to add it, try Wikipedia or Wiktionary.
For hard bound dictionaries, I use and recommend the following:
1) Concise Oxford English Dictionary
An excellent desktop reference with good definitions, root words, synonym studies, idioms, pronunciation guides and much more. You won't find one word definitions. When you're trying to settle a bet about a word, the Oxford Concise Dictionary is where you should look.
2) Microsoft Encarta College Dictionary: The First Dictionary For The Internet Age
I didn't think I was going to like this dictionary. I expected it to be too simplified to be valuable. And it is simplified but in a very useful way. Listings are easy to locate and read. It is an excellent resource for computer technology and internet terms. Microsoft's ENCARTA College Dictionary is one of those reference tools that will get worn out from constant use.
These two references combined with online resources for emerging technical language cover 95% of the terms I find myself seeking.
If there is a word or term that you want us to include or you would like us to try and find a definition for a particular word, submit a request for us to "add a word."
